’tis the season…

For knitting!  That’s right, knitting season is back in session.  I used up some of my old stash over the weekend to make myslef a scarf finally.  I also signed on to make a zillion gifts for people for the holidays, so hopefully I can get those cranked out in time.  But if my first project of the season is any indicator, I should be all set–I finished the scarf in under 36 hours!  Hooray fast fingers!

I’ll post pics of my scarf once my camera battery is recharged.

Hope everyone has a great, layoff-free week!

one of the lucky ones

Today marked the first wave of layoffs at my company and I am one of the lucky ones, thank goodness.

Two people got booted from my department, one girl from my immediate group who had been with the company ten years, so I guess making peanuts has its advantages!

Anyway, after the layoffs, our department consists of ten people and we have four managers, so that will be interesting to see pan out.  I hope my boss is safe, since he went to bat for me on Friday with that douchebag ex-boss of mine.

To anyone else who is under the squeeze, I hope things work out for you!

blerg!

What a fucking day!  For real, I dont think I could possibly be any more aggrivated.

So, yesterday, at 5.15p, we get an e-mail at work explaining that with all the downtime we have been experiencing, that we cannot go on the internet any longer, we cannot read any longer, we cannot visit other people’s cubes any longer.  We are to appear busy so that other departments dont complain that our group is on the internet all day, readingg all day, chatting it up in people’s cubes all day.  It is not our group’s fault that we are so completely efficient that it affords us hours upon hours of boring downtime.  So today was spent frustratingly trying to bide my time until 5.30p rolled around.  If it werent for Dawn and Emily, I might have gone completely nuts and thrown staplers and adding machines in a manic effort to make a bold statement.  This new development of no-mail/reading/chatting is probably directly due to the fact that we are trying to avoid layoffs.  So instead of being bored all day reading the internet, I sit in my cube chewing my nails to nubs, frantically awaiting the day of my layoff.

Then, today my boss calls me into his office.  This past week, a fellow colleague, with whom I used to work directly, asked me my personal opinion of my previous group.  (If you want more in-depth blow-by-blow, read my archives from last winter)  I told her the position wasnt for me.  I explained that the managerial style did not jive with my personality and that I felt I was a workhorse , etc.   All valid opinions.  The girl who asked me this was in the process of interviewing.  She clarified that she had a meeting with the managers and was fearful that she made a mistake in pursuing this path.  I told her that this was my view and her mileage may vary.  My boss calls me into his office today to tell me that my old boss came to him and said that I was “ragging on him and his department”.   I was livid!  How darte he try to disgrace my reputation and makeme out to be some gossip-monger who is defaming his group to every other department in the company.  Luckily, my boss stood up for me, however, it did not do much to assuage my malcontent.

To top it off, this afternoon I get a comment on my “gobama!” post telling me off.  Though this marks my very first “hater” comment, I couldn’t help but be put off by it.

So tonight Jeff has a show and I am proceeding to go out and have me a good time.  Warning: Cameron is feisty and cannot be held responsible for her actions.  (Dawn- this does not mean that you can send guys over offering to buy me beers just so you can see me get all pissy.)

I hope everyone has a better day than I had!

 Have a good one!

gobama!

For the first time in probably my entire lifetime, I feel proud of my country; my faith in this country has been restored.

Hopefully Obama keeps his word and goes in there and does not buckle under the hugely Democratic Senate and House and makes actual change occur instead of just succumbing to party lines.  This will be his greatest challenge, I foresee, but I am no polictico, so I am just keeping my fingers crossed (while smiling joyously) that we actually have a chance.

Anyway, I just want to say a big, fat THANKS, AMERICA!
