promotion

So, I just accepted an offer to move to a new position within my company.  I am so excited.  I got a little raise, but the best part is knowing that there is a light at the end of the tunnel that is this miserable group.

Yay me!  Maybe now I can afford to buy some great yarn I have had my eye on.  (Speaking of which, thanks need to go out to my sister Emily for using her handy paypal account to buy me some Malabrigo from Pure Knits, since I let my paypal account go dead.)

can’t stop laughing

So, I finished Jeff’s hat just now.  HA!  Oh man.  I guess I got a little shape-crown happy and didn’t knit as many ribbing rows as I should have, because, wow.  It looks more like a little knit yamukah than a beanie.

I need to try again.  With some less scratchy yarn and a bit more experience.

Seriously, I think I need to go lay down.  I am all winded from laughing.

 Good night peeps.

pics

So, First up on today’s agenda:  new pics with my new D40.  I had to wait to get the memory card and now I can’t stop shooting.  So cool.  We went to a show with T on Sunday and saw our friend’s band in Manchester, NH, but there are so many different settings, I wasn’t happy with any of the shots I got.  Wah.  I will just have to keep fiddling this weekend.  Which brings me to my next point…

On Friday, we are driving up to Killington in Vermont to check out the place where my dad is getting married.  I will have plenty to shoot up there and get to play with different light and textures (I am gonna pass on the skiing/snowboarding/snowmobiling activities and opt for the more relaxing massage, perhaps?).

Thirdly, I started Jeff’s hat last night

So far a super fast knit.  Maybe I can finish my dad a hat on my way up to Killington since I owe him from like two Christmases ago.  Anyhoo, that’s news from this front.

it’s here

I got it!  The Nikon D40 is mine!  Hooray!

Of course, I didnt buy the SD memory card because my dad has one for me and he is India until tomorrow, which is why there are no new pictures of Sean’s scarf up, but you guys can wait, right?  Right.

yippee

Hooray!  Our state taxes were direct deposited last night.  Yes!  I am going straight to Best Buy after work and grabbing me a new camera.  I am so excited I just cant take it!

Probably nearly the exact same time that the taxes were being deposited, I finished Sean’s scarf.  I blocked it last night and it came out so purty.  I think he will like it.  I have to get a pic of it with my new camera and add it as my first FO on this blog!

If you cant tell, I am just in the greatest mood today ever.  Let’s see if work today will let me maintain this state of happiness or drag me down to my normal state of miserableness as it tends to do.

  Hooray!

new ideas

I could not sleep at all last night because I was dreaming up new stuff to knit (all these thoughts were to prevent me from thinking about my job and what lies ahead for me).

I ordered some Manos del Uruguay Manos wool in *olive* to knit Jeff up a hat he has been begging me for.  I am going to try the hot head from SNB but I am going to try to knit it in the round.  This will prove to be a challenge, since I have never a) knit in the round or b) converted a flat knitting pattern into a circular pattern.  I am pumped.

In other news, my roommate from college is coming out to visit on Thursday and I am super excited!  Not sure what we will do, I am kinda hoping to just wing it, but it will be fun.  All I can hope is that the tax money comes in before then, so I can go grab the Nikon.  We’ll see what happens…

v-day

 purl-two-heart.jpg

  Happy Valentine’s Day, webiverse!

I usually am not hugely into Valentine’s day, and this year really isnt any different except for the fact that I am excited to go out to dinner, since we have some extra cash to do so.

Jeff is surprising me with dinner at a new restuarant (I am so curious, I could die) and told me not to look at the bank online, just in case he decides to break the rules and get me a gift.  He is already stopping by the yarn shop today to pick up the remaining yarn for Sean’s scarf, so that is gift enough.  Poor thing, he still hasnt gotten anything knit by me, but neither have I, so I guess we both have to wait until gifting season is good and over.

Anyhoo, my dad used to get us 1 lb boxes of See’s candy when we were little all the way up to last year, but this year he is too busy (they dont have See’s out here on the East Coast, so it makes it kinda hard to pop into the shop to grab a few boxes) so I am sad about that.  Another tradition I am too  old to participate in any longer.  So I told him that he will just have to pick the tradition back up when he is retired and has little grandkids running around to give those fun boxes to.

Also, I can’t wait for my tax return to come in.  I have been hording a bunch of Best Buy gift cards (from Christmas and my birthday) to buy myself a new DSLR.  I am going to splurge on the Nikon D40 so that I can take real pictures of the boy’s band, nature shots and good pics of my knitting to post up here.  So that way, I dont have to wait until my sister is around for her to take pictures of my knitting projects (at her reluctance and hearing her constant excuses, “the battery is dead and I cant find the charger cord”).  I know it cant be more than a couple weeks away before the state tax gets direct deposited, so I can get my camera and Jeff can get his lower sleeve filled in (that’s a tattoo for those of you not into that kind of thing).  Ok this post is getting too long.

Hope everyone has a nice v-day!

blah

So, I am in such a funk today.  Perhaps it is related to the fact that I havent knit anything substantial in a few days. I ran out of the yarn for Sean’s scarf and my funk has prevented me from being at all gung-ho about any other projects.  I cast on and knit a few rows for Jeff’s sister’s scarf (the cheater’s lace one in Disco Lights *Pinecone*) that I dont need to finish until mid-April, but I was so uninterested, I just put it away to finish another day.

So, I am feeling pretty blah today and I decided to share my uninspired-ness with the zero people who read this thing.  But you know?  It feels good to just write and have a kind of diary.  Even if it is viewable and in no way private.

grr

So, Sean’s scarf is not finished yet.  I am supposed to give it to him Wednesday, but I ran out of yarn and wont be able to grab more until Thursday.  I guess it serves me right for going up a size in needles.

I wrapped it on the needles and brought it to his birthday dinner on Friday, but he already guessed what it was and wants it on Wednesday (his actual birthday).

Here is the halfway finished project…

yay!

So this is my very first blog, not quite sure what the heck I am doing, but I wanted to start something like a knitting diary: to track progress and to show off my projects (rather than littering my friends inboxes with pix messages)

Of course, I am still new at this so I dont have any pics up yet (and I dont tend to bring my camera to work) but those will come shortly.

Anyway, welcome to my blog!
